Mitsumata
Mitsumata is considered to be softer and more pliable than kozo and takes twice as long as kozo to grow. It works absorbs colour beautifully. The natural warm tone enhances rather than detracts from applied colour.,Mitsumata is an elegant choice for drawing and printmaking - from bold relief to delicate chine coll,.
Sized
These papers all have varying levels of sizing making them less absorbent than typical Japanese papers. Especially suitable for watercolour and other wet media, this collection is also very good for printing with water-based inks and for mokuhanga.

All are made with 100% Japanese fibre by papermakers using traditional methods. Sustainable and possessing the qualities necessary to acquire longevity. Suitable for printmaking, wet media, and work in 3-D. Heritage Washi
Heritage Washi is a term coined by The Japanese Paper Place for Japanese papers that are still made by hand by skilled craftspersons using the earth-friendly techniques and materials of their ancestors. These papers are painstakingly made from the inner bark of 3 renewable species of plants - kozo, mitsumata and gampi. No fillers have been added, no harsh caustic soda used to hasten the process and no bleach to whiten the colour. As a result, these papers are very strong, absorbent and archival with a fine beautiful surface. They await your touch to complete the conversation.
Kizuki Somegami
Kizuki Somegami is a thin, high quality, kozo paper. Developed particularly for chine-colle, it is appropriate for many other uses including drawing and collage. It is also strong enough to be used as a stand-alone paper for printmaking. This paper has a fine, even surface and crisp feel. The fibre is cooked with caustic soda and dyed with direct synthetic dyes. We will slowly increase the range of colours available.,Kizuki Somegami is made exclusively for The Japanese Paper Place as a replacement for Matsuo Kozo which is no longer being made. We are very happy to be able to offer this paper as good quality colour papers become increasingly difficult to source.
