Synthrapol is an industrial strength, pH neutral, liquid detergent used as a prewash and afterwash for dyed or painted fabrics and as a wetting agent for fabric dyes and paints. Synthrapol has the unique property of keeping loose dye suspended during washing, thus preventing backstaining while aiding in the removal of excess color.
Instructions
Prewash
Prewashing fabric with Synthrapol to remove oils, waxes, starches and sizings helps ensure an even dye job and reduces the risk of blotchy color. Directions: Add 3 tablespoons/44 ml Synthrapol per 8 lb/3.63 kg washing load. For cotton and other cellulose fibers, add 2 tablespoons/30 g soda ash. Wash for at least 10 minutes using hot water and then rinse thoroughly.
Afterwash
Synthrapol helps keep loose dye in suspension and is used to remove excess color and prevent backstaining. Directions: After dyeing or painting, rinse fabric in cold water and then wash for at least 10 min utes using 3 tablespoons/44 ml Synthrapol per 8 lb/3.63 kg fabric. Use hot water for cotton, cool to warm water for silk and wool, and then rinse thoroughly in cold water.
Wetting Agent
Adding Synthrapol to a dye bath or fabric paint can increase dye penetration and helps ensure even coloring. Directions: When dyeing wool and other hard-to-wet fibers, add 2 to 3 drops Synthrapol per 5 lb/2.27 kg fabric.
To increase the penetration, coverage and adhesion of fabric paints on hard-to-wet fabrics, add 1 to 2 drops Synthrapol per 2 fl oz/59.15 ml paint.
