Jude is currently acting as one of three Artists in Residence for the City of
Guelph. “I wrote this for you” is the first painting in a body of work created for this residency, and acts as both document of, and response to, an artist talk they co-facilitated with KW artist Brenda Reid. This painting, along with other responsive paintings indexing the project, will be available for public viewing at the Guelph Civic Museum on Friday, October 6th from 5pm-9pm. Jude Akrey is an artist living and practicing on the Between the Lakes Treaty Territory No.3 (otherwise known as Guelph, ON), whose work is entrenched in the ongoing exploration and perpetual re-definition of queer identity as something that is inherently transitory and ambiguous. Their colourful, graphic paintings negotiate the beauty and excitement of living queerly, layered in the ongoing displacement and recalibration they face navigating the world as a trans person. They are dedicated to investigating the power of empowered communities through shared experience and artmaking. Jude recently graduated from the University of Guelph with a BA in Studio Art.
